Meet Jerry

Hi I’m Jerry, I’m 16 years old and while boxing is a big part of my life, my goals go beyond the ring. I’m working hard to improve my grades and graduate high school. I love paining and cooking, and one of my dreams is to attend culinary school abroad someday. Right now, I’m focused on getting in shape, losing weight, and becoming the best amateur boxer I can be. I hope to compete in the amateur ranks and maybe even win a championship belt.

Growing up, I faced a lot of obstacles, and I still struggle with some of them today. I’ve had a tough time with reading and writing, which has affected my confidence and made school really challenging. Being targeted by the wrong crowd in high school didn’t help, and it took a toll on my mental health. I’ve dealt with anxiety and depression, but I’ve been working hard to turn things around. I’m part of an Individualized Education Program to help me improve in school and I go to therapy to work on my mental health.

Boxing became my escape - a way to deal with everything I was going through, I used to watch boxing as a kid, and it felt like a world I could lose myself in. When I started boxing in my freshman year, it became a physical and mental outlet for me, a way to fight through my challenges. Since then, I’ve lost weight, gained confidence, and become healthier overall.

I want to join the Sponsor an Athlete program at Warmup Athletics because it would make a huge difference for my family and me. Paying for my gym membership has been a big financial stress, and I worry about whether we can afford it each month. Being part of this program would lift that burden, allowing me to focus fully on my training and personal goals.

Warmup Athletics is more than just a gym for me; it’s a community where I’v found loyalty, respect, and support that I haven’t felt anywhere else. It’s a place where I can keep pushing myself to be a better version of who I was yesterday.
